Why choose magnesium glycinate?
From energy production to healthy nerve and muscle function, magnesium is an essential mineral with numerous benefits to our health. We choose to provide magnesium in a glycinate form meaning it is highly absorbable by the body, giving it the edge in efficacy over other, cheaper forms of magnesium.
Magnesium glycinate is also better tolerated than other forms of magnesium which can have a harsh effect on the digestive system and leave you with an upset stomach. Each tablet provides 100mg of magnesium, meaning you can take as little or as much as required to suit your individual needs.
As the fourth most abundant mineral in the body, magnesium is required for hundreds of physiological processes. However, data from the most recent National Diet and Nutrition Survey shows that many of us in the UK have an insufficient magnesium intake for reasons including poor diet, pregnancy, illness or medications. Taking a high-quality supplement daily can help keep your levels of this essential mineral topped up.

Magnesium works closely with calcium, and both of these essential nutrients are involved in regulating muscle contractions. Calcium causes your muscles to contract whilst magnesium helps muscles to relax. If your body doesn’t have enough magnesium to compete with calcium, your muscles may contract too much, causing cramps and spasms.
Glycine is an amino acid which the body uses to create proteins, for growth and maintenance of tissue. The body uses glycine to make glutathione, a powerful antioxidant that can help protect cells against oxidative damage caused by free radicals. Glycine is also known to have a calming effect on the brain, making it a perfect match with sleep-supporting magnesium.
Fully-reacted magnesium bisglycinate is purely magnesium bisglycinate. A fully reacted magnesium bislgycinate will usually yield around 10% magnesium, so for example, in our product we use 1000mg magnesium glycinate, which provides 100mg elemental magnesium. The most magnesium a pure, fully-reacted magnesium bisglycinate can yield is 15%. Anything greater than this is not fully-reacted, or theoretically possible.
Most products claiming anything more than 15% will be combined with magnesium oxide, even if it’s not labelled. We are only happy to use fully-reacted magnesium bisglycinate in our products, and this is why this product is a tablet rather than a capsule, because we’d need to use around 4 capsules to achieve the same dose as 1 tablet.
Here comes the science – one molecule of magnesium is bound to two of glycinate, meaning larger molecules, and therefore a larger tablet-size. This form of magnesium means better absorption, and added glycine prevents the magnesium from separating when it dissolves, which can sometimes lead to a stomach upset.
Whilst magnesium can be taken at any time of day, some experts suggest taking it in the evening, due to the calming effect it has on the muscles and nervous system.
People take magnesium to support all sorts of issues, including sleep, stress and muscle recovery. Depending on the reason for taking it, some may notice a difference in as little as a few days to a week. For others, it may take a number of weeks for the effects to be noticeable.
We’d recommend taking this product for 3 months to ensure you give enough time to feel the benefits although this may vary from individual.
